Today’s Booking Through Thursday asks us to post about our favorite books of 2008, so here goes.
Favorite modern literature:
Broken for You by Stephanie Kallos: Excellent novel about finding your family and putting together the broken pieces of life. It was Kallos’s first novel - which reminds me, I wanted to see if she has any others out yet. Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos comes in a close second.
Favorite poetry:
The Ordering of Love: The New and Collected Poems of Madeleine L’Engle: L’Engle’s memoir A Circle of Quiet is a favorite, too - and her poetry is just as personal, poignant, and beautifully written.
Favorite fantasy:
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman: I loved this dark fantasy, though I will say that Gaiman’s Anansi Boys came in a close second.
Favorite children’s book:
Tigerheart by Peter David - with The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall and The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart coming in close behind.
Favorite Christian fiction:
She Always Wore Red by Angela Hunt: This is the second book in her Fairlawn trilogy - book three comes out this spring, and I can’t wait.
Favorite science fiction:
The Host by Stephenie Meyer: Yes, I got totally caught up in the Twilight phenomenon, but I thought this more well-written and had more depth.
I could go on and on - historical fiction, non-fiction, etc. - but I’m tired, and this is long enough.
