Fall Into Reading 2008 - Wrap-up

Fall is officially over. Of course, you don’t have to tell me that - it’s 7 degrees below zero out there right now! Time to wrap up my Fall Into Reading 2008 Challenge, but I’m almost afraid to, since I didn’t do very well with my challenge list, as you will see if you read on.

Katrina has given us a few questions to help us wrap things up.

Did you finish reading all the books on your fall reading list? If not, why not?

Here are the books I finished:

~ The Intellectual Devotional by David S. Kidder & Noah D. Oppenheim
~ A Bell for Adano by John Hersey
~ Fieldwork by Mischa Berlinski
~ The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart
~ Peril & Peace: Chronicles of the Ancient Church by Brandon and Mindy Withrow
~ The Grift by Debra Ginsberg
~ Company of Liars by Karen Maitland
~ The Night Country by Stewart O’Nan
~ The Beekeeper’s Apprentice by Laurie R. King
~ The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls

I am still reading Vintage Jesus by Mark Driscoll and Gerry Breshears - should have it finished next week.

I also continued reading these, but as they are ongoing reading projects, I knew I would not complete them during the challenge period:

~ Defining Moments in Books: The Greatest Books, Writers, Characters, Passages and Events that Shook the Literary World edited by Lucy Daniel
~ The Oxford Book of American Poetry
~ Essays of the Masters edited by Charles Neider
~ William Wordsworth: Selected Poems

I didn’t even start these:

~ Eldest and Brisingr by Christopher Paolini
~ Gossamer by Lois Lowry
~ Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy

Did you stick to your original goals or did you change your list as you went along?

When I do a seasonal challenge, I always keep my list fairly short so that I have room to just pick up books as the mood grabs me. Part of the reason I didn’t finish my complete list is the number of ARCs I had received. I feel guilty reading my own books when there are ARCs to be read. I also loved The Beekeeper’s Apprentice by Laurie R. King so much that I have continued reading the Mary Russell series. The ARCs and the Russell series combined made it impossible to find time to read those last few books on my list.

All in all, I guess I didn’t do too badly. I probably won’t be doing any seasonal challenges in 2009, since I’ve signed up for so many other challenges, and my reading will be focused in that direction.
