Booked to Die

Booked to Die is the first of the Cliff Janeway mysteries (aka The Bookman mysteries) by John Dunning. I purchased The Bookman’s Promise earlier this year, thinking it was the first in the series. I found out it is actually the third title, so I checked out the first two from the library.
Booked to Die finds Cliff Janeway, Denver homicide detective, burned out with the life of a cop. First, a local book scout is murdered, but the trail of clues runs dry. Then Janeway has a run-in with small-town hoodlum Jackie Newton. He decides to leave the force, and pursue his first love, books.
Janeway opens his own book shop, but he can’t quite leave his investigative instincts behind. When new evidence surfaces about the book scout’s murder, the new bookman is drawn back into the hunt for a murderer.
The mystery kept me turning the pages, and the information about book values and first editions was a bonus. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is the only one in the series that I haven’t read. But I loved the rest of them.

Framed - I am now enjoying the second one. What could be better but a good page-turning mystery with lots of book-lovers facts thrown in?
